CONSTITUTION AND BY LAWS
PREAMBLE:
Lauderdale County has many citizens who have made outstanding contributions to their communities through their extraordinary accomplishments as athletes, coaches, and in other fields relating to sports. Many of these outstanding citizens have achieved fame in athletics and brought a measure of notoriety to Lauderdale County. Therefore, we believe those in a sports-related field who have demonstrated, through sports activities, those qualities that clearly identify them as exceptional athletes and champions should be recognized through a sports hall of fame.
ARTICLE I: ORGANIZATION NAME
Section 1. The name of this organization shall hereafter be known as the Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame.
ARTICLE II: GOVERNANCE
Section 1. The governance of the Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame shall be embodied in a Hall of Fame Committee.
ARTICLE III: HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. The Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame Committee shall have members who are committed to bring active with the Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame.
Section 3. All vacancies shall be filled by an appointment by a majority vote of the remaining members.
Section 4. Any member may be removed from the committee for just causes, by a majority vote of the committee members.
ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS AND DUTIES
Section 1. The president shall:

Preside over all meetings of the Hall of Fame Committee.

Appoint special and standing committees.

Perform other duties customarily required of the president.
Section 2. A vice president shall act as president when, for any reason, the president cannot preside.
Section 3. A secretary shall keep current, accurate and complete records of minutes of the meeting of the committee, and prepare and send out all correspondence as required.
Section 4. A treasurer shall keep a current, accurate and complete accounting of the finances of the Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame.
ARTICLE V: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Section 1. The duties and responsibilities of the Hall of Fame Committee members shall be as follows:

To receive and evaluate nominations of persons who shall be considered for election to the hall of fame.

To select, from the nominees, those persons who will be inducted into the hall of fame.

To carry out any supporting activities necessary to successfully achieve the duties and responsibilities listed in Article V, Section 1; a and b.
ARTICLE VI: MEETINGS
Section 1. Regular meetings of Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame Committee shall be held at such time and place as may be determined by the president. The committee shall meet at least four times each year.
Section 2. Special meetings may be called by the president or upon the written request of two thirds of the committee membership.
Section 3. The secretary, in a timely manner, shall notify members of each meeting date, time and location.
Section 4. A quorum for all meetings of the Hall of Fame shall be a majority of the committee membership, plus a minimum of two officers must be present.
ARTICLE VII: NOMINATIONS
Section 1. To be eligible for induction into the Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame, the nominee must:

Be a native of Lauderdale County, or
-
Have attended school in Lauderdale County, or
-
Be a resident of Lauderdale County for a sufficient period of time to be considered a permanent resident, or
-
Meet one of the requirements and one or more of the criteria listed in Article VII, Section 3.
Section 2. Nominations, accompanied by resumes, shall be:

Made in writing to Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 97, Killen, Al. 35645.

Section 3. The categories of nominees shall be as follows:

Coach – A person who has a minimum of 10 years of coaching experience
-
Athlete – A person who has been out of high school for a period of 10 years
-
Others – A person who has made a long-term, significant contribution to the sports field or whose off-the-field accomplishments have brought recognition to athletics in Lauderdale County
Section 4. A listing of nominees shall be sent to each member of the Hall of Fame Committee for consideration.
Section 5. The Hall of Fame Committee shall determine voting procedures to select candidates for induction. To be selected, a nominee must receive a minimum of two-thirds vote of the committee members.
Section 6. In event a nominee receives less than a two thirds vote the remaining nominees that received votes shall be determined by voting again until a two thirds quota is met.
Section 7. All nominees shall remain in the nominee pool to be re-nominated.
Section 8. Induction requirements shall be:

The selectee, if physically able, must appear in person at the induction ceremonies in order to be officially inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.

If the selectee has not been inducted within a two-year period after being selected, the person’s name will be officially withdrawn from the list of those who have been selected and must be re-submitted for further consideration.
ARTCILE VIII: COMMITTEES
Section 1. The president of the Hall of Fame Committee shall appoint all committees as deemed necessary.
Section 2. All appointed committees shall report to the president of the Hall of Fame in a timely manner.
ARTICLE IX: AMENDING BYLAWS
Section 1. These bylaws may be amended at any regular or special meeting of the Hall of Fame Committee with the approval of two-thirds of the attending members.
