Clanton, Charles

He was one of the first outstanding athletes at Bradshaw, having lettered and excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. In track, he set the state record in pole vault in 1966. In basketball, he scored 234 points in three seasons. In baseball, he was selected to the All-TVC team three times and All-State in 1969 after hitting .400. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles. Instead, he chose to accept a scholarship at Samford University. He made numerous all-star teams in football while at Bradshaw, including All-TVC, All-Quad-Cities and All-State (1968). He scored a touchdown in the NCAA Division II national championship game as Samford won the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. He broke the Samford record with 10 receptions and two touchdowns in a win over Florence State in 1972. He also set a record for most TD receptions in a season with seven, and finished with 13 TDs during his career.
