Coffee

He played during the "glory days" of Coffee athletics. He was selected team captain in four sports. He waited his tum in football but contributed greatly as a sophomore in 1963 and during Coffee's championship football season in 1964. He started at quarterback. safety and punter as a senior, leading his team to a 7-2-1 record. He was selected to numerous "all-star" teams as a senior, including honorable mention All-State team. He signed with the University of Georgia and played backup, largely because of the Bulldogs run philosophy. In basketball, his three seasons in junior high produced a 74-1 record. As a senior, he led the Jackets to the county, Quad¬Cities and TVC championships. He averaged 17 points and was an even greater contributor on defense, earning selection to several all-star teams. In baseball, he was a stellar pitcher for the Jackets and an all-star. He earned a spot on the Coffee track team as a hurdler and in the high jump. He later helped Bradshaw get its ninth-grade football team off the ground, leading them to an undefeated season in his second year. He later served as offensive coordinator at Bradshaw before accepting a graduate asssistant job at Georgia.
