Played quarterback and free safety for Lauderdale County High School, leading his teams to three playoff appearances. During his senior season, he rushed for 1,205 yards and 22 TOs and passed for 872 yards and 9 TOs. He also had nine interceptions and 45 tackles during the year. He was also a standout basketball player, earning all-county and all-area honors in all three sports. He was the Class 3A Player of the Year in football in 1991. At the University of North Alabama, he had a 41-2 record as a starting quarterback. He led UNA to three consecutive NCAA Division II national champion¬ships. He was responsible for 65 career touchdowns, a school career record. He was inducted into the Division 11 Football Hall of Fame and UNA Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. He was named to the Gulf South Conference Team of the Decade for the 1990s and the GSC Team of the Quarter Century (1971-1995). He is currently head coach at Colbert County High School.
