Coffee High School had high school football fans statewide abuzz in the early 1960s. The Yellow Jackets' famed "Gold Dust Twins" had earned a reputation for their explosive play, and Terry Haddock was the fuse. Haddock and teammate Charlie Young formed the deadly duo, but it was Haddock who caught
much of the attention due to his blazing speed, a weapon that earned him All-American honors. He returned 21 punts for touchdowns during his career and was equally as dangerous at halfback. He was Mr. Coffee High School and captain of the football team and also played in the state basketball tournament for three consecutive seasons. However, his biggest achievement could have been on the track. He won the state 100 and 220 .yard dashes as a junior and senior. He set the state l00-yord dash record during the process. Haddock remained a Yellow Jacket when he went to college by accepting a scholarshlp with Georgia Tech. He played four years at GeorgIa Tech and played in the Gator Bowl. He also found time to tie the school's 1 OO-yard dash record. He later signed with the St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL and played a season before joining the U.S. Navy. where he managed to play football during his military stay.
