Hamner, John

Rogers

Coming from a family that has produced outstanding athletes, it is no wonder that John Hamner would excel. He was an All-County/All District basketball player at Rogers High School ftom 1952-55, culminated by him averaging 22 points per game as a junior and 21 points per game as a senior.
His baseball exploits were equally as impressive with him being selected All-County his last two seasons and playing in the East-West All-Star Game. He added football to his sporting list when he enrolled at Delta State University, lettering and starting all four years. Astonishingly, he lettered three years in basketball and four years in baseball, leading his team in home runs and batting average in 1959, Hamner found time in the spring of 1959 to play on the school's first goIf team. In April of 2000, he received the Distinguished Statesman Award at the Delta State Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He now spends his time traveling and playing golf with all his "Hamner" kin folks.
