He was an All-American player at Lauderdale County and a 1976 qraduate. He made an impact early by rushing for 875 yards in seven games during his sophomore season, leadinq the tigers to the state championship. He got 238 of those yards in a single game. Overall, he played in 26 regular¬season games and rushed for 3,126 yards on 461 carries. That performance included 39 touchdowns ¬30 running and nine receiving. Despite playing running back, he grabbed 256 passes for 641 yards durinq his career. He also contributed 11 two-point conversions and still holds the state playoff record with a 97 yard punt return. He was voted most valuable back as a junior and senior, and earned All-State and All-American status as a senior. He signed with theUniversity of Alabama and played for Bear Bryant. His career with the Tide was limited because of injuries.
