Hollis, Joe
Coffee
Coffee High School's 1964 football team is considered by many to the best squad produced in
Lauderdale County, and Joe Hollis was considered the team's leader. He served as team captain on that undefeated state championship team. He was the team's Most Valuable Player during his senior season. But football was not the only sport he excelled in during his high school days. He lettered in three sports in three consecutive years, and was a key figure in the Yellow Jackets' undefeated baseball team in 1965. He attended Auburn University on a baseball scholarship and helped the team with the 1967 SEC Championship. Hollis remained active in sports after graduating, having served as a coach on many levels.
