Coffee
He was one of the most outstanding athletes in Coffee High School sports, having earned major accomplishments in football, basketball and track. He lettered four years in track and basketball and three years in football. He earned all-area, all-region, All- Tennessee Valley Conference and all-state recognition in basketball and football. He helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the state basketball championship in 1979-80. He was also nominated to the McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Team. He was the starting quarterback for Coffee's 9-1 team as a junior. He later signed a scholarship to play football at the University of Alabama, becoming a part of Bear Bryant's last recruiting class.
