Lumpkin, Bill

Coffee High School

Lumpkin was named the first four sport letter winner at Coffee High School in1952. He was a member of the 1951 state championship basketball team. He was All State selection, and All Southern honorable mention in 1952. He was the first player from the Tri-Cities to play in the East West All American game in 1952. He was named Most Valuable Player in the Tri-Cities Conference and member of the North South All Star Game in 1952. He signed to play football at the University of Alabama in 1953. He transferred to Florence State in 1956. He was named Most Valuable Lineman at Florence State and ended career as the best pass receiver in the school’s history at that time. He signed to play with the New York Giants in 1958. He played with the Huntsville Rockets in 1962 and was a wide receiver coach with the Alabama Hawks.
