McGuire, Connie
Lexington
McGuire was never a part of athletics in high school. Upon arriving at Lexington High School in 1971 athletics suddenly became her life. In the 1970's she organized the first volleyball, track, basketball and gymnastics teams at the school. She earned the first coaching supplement for a female coach in 1976 and 20 years after she arrived at Lexington compiled a phenomenal record. As a track coach there were 7 consecutive Lauderdale County Championships, 7 Sectional Champs, 11 consecutive State Track Meet appearances and 3 third place State trophies. She had 14 consecutive winning basketball seasons finishing with a 210-128 record. There were 2 Lauderdale County and 2 Area Championships along with one Final Four appearance. But, as a volleyball coach, she never had a losing season in 20 years compiling a 441-97 record (82% win-loss) - 17 Lauderdale County Champions, 12 State Finals appearances, 7 State Runner-up Titles and 5 State Champs. Her last season was a milestone finishing 45-5, winning 30 in a row and culminating in back to back State Champions! In 1998 she was named to the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame.
