Michael, Gerald

Lexington

He was one of north Alabama’s best basketball players in the early 1960s, starring at Lexington. He averaged 22 points and 14 rebounds per game during his junior and senior seasons in 1962 and 1963. He was chosen to the All-Wheeler Basin Conference, All-County, All-District and All-State teams both years. He was also selected to the East-West All-Star Baseball team. At Freed-Hardeman College, he was the team co-captain in 1964 and captain in 1965, averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds per game during the two seasons. In baseball, he posted the third-highest batting average (.357) in the Dixie Conference. He was inducted into the Freed-Hardeman Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
