Mitchell, Mike
Mars Hill
Mitchell was an outstanding baseball, track and basketball player at Mars Hill Bible School from 1971¬74. He made numerous All-Area teams during his playing days, but in coaching at Mars Hill, his legacy is profound. As a baseball coach, his teams claimed five area championships and finished runner-up to the "blue map" an incredible four times. However, as the girls' basketball coach, those "red maps" turned blue as his teams won five state titles. Eleven area and six region championships were icing on the cake as his teams compiled a 380-119 record through 17 seasons. He was named the Times Daily's Coach of the Year twice, ASWA Coach of the Year in 1989, and was a coach in the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star game in 1991 and 1996 Mitchell left Mars Hill in the fall of 2000 to coach in Georgia.
