Morrison, Butch

Brooks

Butch was a multi-sport standout at Brooks High School who broke school records as a 7th grader in the long jump and 440-yard dash. He won the state championships in both, all four varsity years, and set state records in both by the time he graduated in 1981. He was also on the state champion 4x100 and mile relay teams. Butch also began playing basketball at the varsity level in the 7th grade. He played football for Coach Harlon Hill and Jack Weaver. He made All-County, All-Area, and All-State teams during his high school career. He was awarded the 1980-81 Times Daily Outstanding High School Athlete award. He received a scholarship to play football for UNA. Auburn University held the first Alabama Sports Festival in 1983. Butch entered in the track and field competition. He caught the attention of Auburn University track coaches and the rest was history for Butch. He transferred from UNA to Auburn to join the Auburn Track team. He competed in long jump, triple jump and 100, 200, and 400 meter runs. He had 4th place finishes in SEC meet in long and triple jumps and 5th place in 400 meter run.
