Newsome, Ashley (Thomas)

Ashley scored the first two points of the newly combined (Bradshaw/Coffee) Florence High School Girls Basketball team. She earned All-Area and All-Region honors for all three seasons during her high school career. She was recruited by several Division I teams to play basketball in college. However she was a dominant middle hitter in volleyball. She had a standout performance in the North South All Star game. She led the Falcons with 365 kills and 128 blocks in 2006. She accepted a scholarship to play volleyball at Mississippi State University. Stats for her collegiate career are 950 kills, 83 solo blocks, 323 block assists, and 441 points. She set a school record for Total Career Blocks at 406 and was named to the second team All-SEC. She also played a year of basketball at Mississippi.
