Riley, Hayden
Coffee
A native of Guin, Riley was a recognized name at the University of Alabama in several sports and considered a main figure in Bear Bryant's athletic department. He was head football and basketball coach as well as assistant principal at Coffee High School. He coached the 1951 Coffee state championship football team, and his basketball teams made it to the state finals in seven of his 10 seasons as coach. He coached the North squad in the 1957 state All-Star high school basketball game. He later served as head baseball and basketball coach at the University of Alabama. He was also Assistant Athletic Director at Alabama under Bryant, and later served as commissioner of the Gulf South Conference. As a player, he played football, basketball, and baseball collegiately.
