Singleton, Frank
Bradshaw High School
Frank began playing basketball in 7th grade, at Appleby Junior High School, where he was a starting guard on the undefeated basketball team coached by Coach Ralph Smith and Coach Eddie Frost. He also played little league and Babe Ruth baseball under teams coached by Press Robbins and “Sarge” Tanner. In basketball he was a starting forward his junior and senior years for Coach Eddie Frost. His 1970/71 Bruin team won the 4A Region 8 tournament to advance to the state tournament. He was the only player to average double points and double rebounds during that season. He also led the team in free throw percentage and total rebounds. He was All Quad-Cities, All-Area, All-TVC, All-Region and honorable mention All-State. In baseball he played right field and led the team in HRs, RBIs, and extra base hits with a better than .350 batting average. He was selected, and started, on the District East/West All-Star team. He had several scholarship offers to play basketball, and baseball, but decided to try out for a spot on the 1971 Auburn University basketball team as a walk-on. He was the only player to start or play all 3 positions (G, F, & C) on the freshman team. He was also the first player from Bradshaw to play basketball in the NCAA Division I and SEC.
