Lauderdale County

Larry Sinyard took girls' basketball to new heights in Lauderdale County and in Alabama. He participated in 13 state basketball tournaments during his career; two as a player, one as an assistant coach and ten as the head coach of the Lauderdale County High School girls' team. His girls' team won five state championships and finished second twice along with making three other state tournament appearances. His girls' teams won the county championship 13 times between 1980 and 1998. His record with the girls' program was 475-81. When you add in his record as the boys' junior and B-team coach, the record is 517-96. He was selected to the Alabama High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002. He played on LCHS' state tournament teams in 1965 and 1967, while earning three varsity letters in basketball and track. He played basketball at Calhoun Junior College and graduated from Athens State. He began his coaching at Clements High School where he coached basketball, track and football.
