Springer, Danny

Lexington

Danny played on county championship basketball teams at Lexington in 1970 and 1971, and on the 1972 team that were area and region champs and advanced to the state tournament in Tuscaloosa. The Bears had a three-year record of 57-21. He was an All-County and Times Daily All-Area performer as a junior and senior, while also making the Birmingham News All-State team in 1972. He scored 1,374 points in his final three years, averaging more than 21 points per game as a junior and senior. He also averaged 17 rebounds a game as a junior and 19 as a senior. He scored 41 points in a game against Brooks. He signed a scholarship at Huntingdon College and lettered three years. He coached volleyball and boys basketball at Winston County High School, winning county coach of the year honors six times. He is a member of the Winston County Sports Hall of Fame. Prior to going to Winston County, he coached Minor Christian School to a state championship in 1979.
