Rogers
He played baseball and football at Coffee 1949-1951, and was the team's leading scorer during his junior football season. He played baseball at Florence State, becoming the team's MVP in 1957 after leading the Lions in batting average and runs scored. After a three-day camp, he was offered a Minor League contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers but turned it down to return to college. He started the varsity football team at Rogers in 1959 and became the school's head football and baseball coach. He coached in the East-West All-¬Star baseball game four times and was selected the state All-Star coach twice. His baseball team's produced one of the best records of any school in northwest Alabama.
