Thompson, Amanda Hunt

Mars Hill

Amanda grew up playing basketball at Broadway Recreation Center and softball at Point Park. She played on the first AAU girls team representing Florence, while in middle school. As an eighth grader she began playing sports in school, on all of Mars Hill “first” teams. She played basketball and volleyball. Her teams won four area championships, three region championships, and a Class 1A State Championship. All firsts for Mars Hill. She led the basketball team in scoring, averaging 19.8 ppg her senior season. She had a career total or 1,342 points (before three pointers were implemented). She was named to All County, All Area, and All State teams. She earned a scholarship to continue playing basketball at Freed-Hardeman, where she earned a starting position her freshman year. One college career highlight was a 30-point game in win over Union University. In recreational softball her team won the 1978 state championship and represented Florence in the regional tournament in Florida.
