Bradshaw

Carey graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1985. During his senior year he was named Times Daily Player of the Year and a member of the North team in the High School All Stars Baseball North South game. He was All Conference at Calhoun State Community College. At the University of Alabama, 1987-1989, he was ABCA All-South Region Team, First Team All-SEC, and Second Team All American. He led the team with a .367 batting average, most triples with 5, most RBI’s with 61, most home runs with 16, and most stolen bases with 22. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 10th round of 1989 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft. He spent his first season of pro ball at Clearwater (A) where he hit .267 with 14 doubles in 52 games. In 1990 he was moved up to Reading (AA) after 63 games with Clearwater. He was voted as having the best throwing arm among outfielders in the Eastern League. He played three years with Scranton (AAA) and was first on club with 104 outfield appearances, second in games, fourth with 18 doubles and fifth with 28 extra base hits. He returned home to Florence to begin his coaching career in 1990 at Bradshaw High School.
