Coffee
He was part of the tandem dubbed the "Gold Dust Twins" at Coffee High School in 1959. He held the school's all-time career touchdown record with 32, a record that stood for more than 30 years. He also held the school career scoring record with 213 points, which included 21 PATs. He scored at least three touchdowns in six games. Young was a high school All-American in 1960 and made all-state teams in 1958-1960. He also won the state pole vault competition in 1960, and was a state diving champion in 1958. He held many AAU Olympic and power weight lifting titles. He played four years on a football scholarship at
Missouri, and was on the Tiger team that defeated Steve Spurrier and Florida in the 1966 Sugar Bowl.
